Sample observation
The reported achievement cannot be traced to supporting records using the assumed published material alone. The indicator definition and calculation method also need confirmation with the institution.
Inspectable examples
These examples explain proposed work. They use fictional scenarios and are not presented as client results.
See the shape of the work
Assume a fictional institution’s published annual report reports a service target as achieved, but does not identify the source records supporting the result. A public-record review can flag that gap; it cannot establish whether evidence exists internally or determine an audit outcome.
The reported achievement cannot be traced to supporting records using the assumed published material alone. The indicator definition and calculation method also need confirmation with the institution.
Ask the designated performance-information owner to assemble the approved indicator definition, source register, calculation and review sign-off. Check the records against the reporting period before proposing remediation.
| Priority | Proposed owner | Acceptance check |
|---|---|---|
| First: validate the evidence gap | Institution-designated performance-information lead; confirm at the working session | A reviewer can trace the reported result to dated source records and reproduce the calculation. Any missing evidence, unresolved discrepancy and next action are recorded. |
The full scope would identify records reviewed, assumptions, questions for management, priorities and agreed responsibilities. A sample is a way to assess the method; it is not assurance or certification.
Request an institutional diagnosticFollow one transaction
Create a quotation for five fictional stock items. Check: customer, quantities, agreed prices and applicable tax treatment are correct.
Review availability in the selected warehouse. Check: the available quantity is explainable and any shortage has an agreed purchasing or fulfilment action.
Record the goods actually issued. Check: delivered quantities and stock movements reconcile; any partial delivery remains visible.
Prepare the customer invoice using the agreed workflow. Check: quantities, prices, taxes and outstanding balance match the supporting transaction records.
Follow the order through to its financial and operational records. Check: staff can find the related records, explain exceptions and perform only their permitted actions.
Before go-live, agree which links are manual or automatic, test returns and corrections, reconcile opening data and record acceptance with the client team.

Review the decision or workflow, available evidence and constraints. Agree deliverables, responsibilities, costs and acceptance checks before implementation.
Configure the agreed system or delivery process. Use representative records to check the required behaviour and record outstanding issues.
Include practical working sessions, operating guidance and named client counterparts in the agreed scope.
Set out maintenance, support hours, escalation and client responsibilities in the service agreement. Confirm readiness before live use.
An owner-led South African practice
Growth Funnel is an independent, owner-led business. Your priorities, scope and next steps are handled directly with the business owner.
Our approach combines practical advisory with configurable business systems, working sessions and skills transfer. The aim is to leave your organisation better able to run the agreed work.
Every engagement sets out its deliverables, responsibilities, fees and handover requirements. Where specialist support is needed, the proposed roles and any subcontracting arrangements are agreed with you before work begins.
Ask for relevant credentials and engagement references when assessing fit. Proposed work and fictional examples are clearly distinguished from completed client work.
